PENTECOST
“GOD’S HOLY SPIRIT” == NOT A TRINITY
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
On the day of Pentecost, that is recorded in Acts 2 reveals to us a force far greater than the atom
bomb and its more sinister sister the nuclear bomb. As powerful as those bombs are, they can not compare to
the awe-some power of God's Holy Spirit, that was used to create a world and a universe, creating life and
resurrecting life, along with promising a eternal spiritual life!
Our Creator has offered us that same power as a free gift upon repentance of sin and continued belief in
His divine laws at our baptism. We are not seeing this power spoken about in today’s traditional Christianity.
Why is that? Because the power of the Holy Spirit is not real to most people! It is simply not understood Most
believe the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are 3 divine beings. Somehow, combined into one called a trinity.
The trinity doctrine was put together from the tradition of men whose roots were in paganism.
The council of Nicaea in 325 A.D. is generally given most credit for legitimizing the idea of the trinity.
In a book called “The History of Christian Thought,” Volume 1, Page 258 reads, “In 325 A.D. the emperor
Constantine called an ecclesiastical council to meet at Nicaea in Bithynia in the hope of securing for his throne
the support of the growing body of Christians. He shows them considerable favor and it was to his interest to
have the church vigorous and united. The Arian controversy (that was one of the sides in the trinity dispute) was
threatening its unity and endangering its strength. He therefore undertook to put an end to the trouble.
Constantine himself, of course, neither knew or cared anything about the matter in dispute, but he was eager
to bring the controversy to a close.” End of quote. This story is how the decision in support of the trinity
doctrine was reached. This same teaching can be found in major Encyclopedias.
The real truth about God's Holy Spirit can be explained by going to the Bible! God's inspired word! The
problem with that is people try to make God's word complex and hard to understand. Read what apostle Paul
had to say about that in 2 Cor: 11: 3, “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his
subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the Simplicity that is in Christ.
With that thought planted in our mind can we prove by God's word the Holy Spirit is not a personage
in the family of God in heaven? Let’s go through some questions and answers from God’s word, so we can have
a better understanding of the Holy Spirit that was given to the disciples on the day of Pentecost.
We will be going here a little and there a little in God’s word. Lets begin by asking is the Holy Spirit
the Father of Jesus the Christ? We will find the answer to that question by going to two verses– first Matt 1: 20,
“But while he [ Joseph, Mary’s husband to be] thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared
unto him in a dream, Saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto you Mary for your wife: for that
which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.” Notice now Luke 1: 35, “And the angel answered and said unto
her, [Mary] the Holy Spirit shall come upon you, and the power of the Highest shall over shadow you: therefore
also that Holy One which shall be born of you shall be called the son of God.” These two witness Matthew
and Luke said clearly, that which is conceived and caused conception in Mary, is of the Holy Spirit [of the
force and power of the Holy Spirit].
Did Christ plainly call God His Father and not the Holy Spirit? “Jesus saith unto her, [Mary Magdalene]
touch Me not; for I am not yet ascended to My Father: but go to My brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto
My Father, and your father; and to My God, and your God” (John 20: 7).
Did our lord Christ pray to the Holy Spirit? “These words spake Jesus, and lifted up His eyes to heaven,
and Said, Father, the hour is come; glorify Your Son, that your Son also may glorify You”(John 17:1). Christ
clearly knows who His Father is! The Apostle Paul in his letters routinely used the name of God the Father
and His Son Christ, when greeting the brethren. What an offence this would be to God the Father if the Holy
Spirit were a person being co- equal with the Father and His Son.
Paul in Rom 8 identifies God’s chosen as heirs of the Father and of Christ leaving out the Holy Spirit.
An heir is one who eventually inherits his fathers estate. We can read all that the Father has is ours. “And if
children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with Him, that we may be
also glorified together”(Rom 8:17). Membership in God’s family brings privileges like sharing with Him the
title deeds to all His wealth. We should begin to see there is no mention made of any being or person called the
Holy Spirit. “But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is
the man; and the head of Christ is God” (1 Cor 11:3). This verse mentions three heads – three great relationships
involving authority and subjection. First, the head of every man is Christ. Secondly, the head of woman is man
And third, the head of Christ is God the Father.
Another verse, this one mentions the kingdom of God. “For this you know, that no whoremonger, nor
unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the Kingdom of Christ and of God
(Eph 5: 5). Paul once again skipped over mentioning the Holy Spirit.
We can read through the whole Bible and see numerous verses talking about God's throne, with the
Father and our Lord sitting or standing. But no reserved chair or special set for the Holy Spirit. Where was
Christ seen standing or setting in heaven? “If you then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above,
where Christ sites on the right hand of God” (Col 3:1).
Now notice what martyred Steven witnessed. “But he, being full of the Holy Spirit , looked up
steadfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, and said, behold,
I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man Standing on the right hand of God”(Act 7:55 - 56). You might
want to see Rev 5:1 through verse 9, there you will find no mention of a being called the Holy Spirit, worthy
of opening the seven seals.
The trinity doctrine places the Holy Spirit into the God family as a third being. but so far we have not
found that to be true. God is a family of two spirit beings. God the Father and Jesus the Christ as the Son. The
two are separate, yet are both God. God is a family name.
The full revelation of the nature of God as a family did not come until the New Testament! None the less
the truth can be seen in the Hebrew Old Testament, when Moses was inspired to write Gen 1: 26. “And God
said, let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness.” God [Elohim ] is plural of majesty, having the
meaning of us and our. This verse and over two thousand other verses show that God is more than one being.
God in heaven is a family of two beings. The Father and His Son, Jesus the Christ.
Let's look at more proof that our family in heaven consist of Two Beings. First lets look at the plain
statement recorded in the Bible of Christ’s baptism. “And Jesus, when He was baptized, went up straightway
out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto Him, and He saw the spirit of God descending like a
dove, and lighting upon Him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, this is My beloved Son, in whom I am well
pleased” (Mat 3:16 -17). Here the father called Christ His Son.
Jesus repeatedly called God His Father.
These scriptures are indeed actual words spoken by Christ and the Father about Themselves, to clearly describe
who They are. “And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch. Then came the Jews round about Him, and
said unto Him, how long do You make us to doubt? If You be the Christ, tell us plainly. Jesus answered them,
I told you, and you believed not: the works that I do in My Father's name, they bear witness of Me. But you
believe not, because you are not of My sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them,
and they follow Me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck
them out of My hand. My father, which gave them Me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out
of My Father's hand. I and My Father are one” (John 10:23-30).
When Continuing to read thru verse 39, you will find more of our Lord calling God His Father. The Jews
knew that Christ was calling God His literal Father Most professing Christianity today, which holds to the trinity
doctrine, doesn't really believe Christ meant what He said. Having God’s Holy Spirit lets us see: God is a family
and God is a family name, for a family of two beings, on the same level of existence.
Now let's look at who or what the Holy Spirit is? Many assume they know but they are deceived!!
To understand what the Holy Spirit is, we must let the Bible interpret itself! So far we have learned God's spirit
is the power and force that emanates from God the Father and His Son.
We acquire more knowledge in John 4. There it tells us God is spirit, “God is a spirit: and they that
worship Him must worship Him in Spirit [producing the fruits of His Holy Spirit] and truth” (John 4:24). We
are flesh, not spirit. There is a vast difference between flesh and spirit. Our minds are fleshly, and so are our
bodies. We are made from the dust of the earth, we know the things flesh can know. We have the power flesh
has. We operate within the power limits of the flesh
God operates under the spirit of Holy-ness, and the Holy Spirit is superior to flesh. Our Lord served His
physical life understanding that. Listen to His conversation with His Father in John 17:11, “And now I am no
more in the world, but these are in the world, And I come to You Holy Father, keep through Thine own name
those whom You have given Me, that they may be one, as We are.
God being immortal, thinks and operates on a different level than we do. When Christ our Lord was
talking to the Pharisee Nicodemus, He compared the spirit to the wind. “The wind blows where it wishes, and
you hear the sound there of, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes: so is every one that is born
of the spirit” (John 3:8).
God'’s spirit responds to His will: it serves His needs and desires like an aid or agent would. It's His
thought in action. Is His energy, His motivation, His attitude, His power, it is His force and His nature. God's
Holy Spirit works in the human mind to help produce our conversion. The Holy Spirit is spoken of as the force
and power God posses.
The first 5 verses in the Bible gives us a glimpse of His awesome power. “In the beginning God created
the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.
And the Spirit [power] of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, let there be light: and there was
light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called
the light day, and the darkness he called night. And the evening and the morning were the first day” (Gen 1:1
-5 ). It is pretty obvious the Holy Spirit is the power or energy by which God operates and creates everything.
Paul facing martyrdom understood the power God has command of. He told Timothy in 2 Tim 1: 7, “For
God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” When God acts the
power of the Holy Spirit carries out His desires.
We will go through some verses that shows us that! For example, the Bible tells us that by His spirit,
He garnished the heavens. Job 26:13, we find that expressed, “By His Spirit He has garnished [ dressed ] the
heavens.” God says His spirit can be poured out in Joel 2: verse 28, And it shall come to pass afterward, that
I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh.” God says His Holy Spirit is shed on us.”
Looking now in the New Testament, Titus 3:5, “Not by works of righteousness which we have done,
but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of the regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Spirit
which He shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ, our Saviour.” The Holy Spirit can be breathed on us,
John 20:22. “And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and saith unto them, receive you the Holy
Spirit.” We can be filled with the Holy Spirit, Act 2:4, “And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began
to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
God anointed Christ with the Holy Spirit, Acts 10:38, “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy
Spirit and with Power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God
was with Him.” The Holy Spirit [Comforter ] proceeds from the Father in heaven.” When the Comforter is
come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of Truth, which proceeds from the Father,
it shall testify of Me”(John 15:26).
None of these verses are in reference portraying the Holy Spirit as a being or a personage, a third party
in the God family in heaven. On occasion God the Father would reveal His Holy Spirit through symbols,
mentioning a few ideas of what they mean. Act 2, speaks of a rushing wind that was present on the day of
Pentecost. “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And
suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they
were sitting” (Acts 2:1- 2). Verses 3 & 4, marks an important turning point in the Holy Spirit dealing with man.
“And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all
filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues [languages], as the spirit gave them utterance.”
When given God’s Holy Spirit we must study His word, spend time in meditation and prayer and live
in obedience to His truth. We also find after hearing the word of truth, we are sealed with the Holy Spirit. “In
whom you also trusted, after that you heard the word of Truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after
that you Believed, you were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise” (Eph 1: 13)..
When a person is called, baptized, and have hands laid on them they are given God’s Holy Spirit, a
changed heart and mind comes over them. God calls this putting on the new man, “begotten”, not born again.
None of these verses are in reference to describe the Holy Spirit as a third person or being in the
Godhead! All these symbols convey different aspects of God's authority and character, they are just symbols
As we can see the Holy Spirit is at times spoken of as if a third person is talking, but it is only the
extension of God the Father or of His Son Jesus the Christ, not a third separate person or being different from
the two. When the bible says the Holy Spirit spoke or moved or remembered something and acted like a person,
it is telling us the Father or the Son did something, by means of Their spiritual power, flowing forth with the
Spirit of God. There are many misunderstood verses that mentions the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. And
that sounds like a trinity– 3 separate God head persons.
Let's look at a scripture most often quoted in support of the trinity. Mat 28:19, “Go you therefore, and
teach all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” Trinitarians
say this verse proves God is a trinity. They say, if the Holy Spirit is not a being, why be baptized into it? The
answer is simple, when we are baptized, we are baptized into the family of God, in the name of or by the
authority of Jesus the Christ. When we are baptized into God’s family, we are promised the Holy Spirit, the
spirit of God which we receive at baptism, is what fuses us to the God family!
In 1 Cor 12: 12 we are told, “For as the body is one, and has many members, and all the members of
that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body,
whether we be jews or gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.”
Paul stated clearly that it was Christ who lived in him. Gal 2:20. “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless
I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son
of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.” Christ lived in Paul’s heart and mind, his actions, and his
character changing was through the force and power of the Holy Spirit.
In order for God to make a person a member of His family, He must make him immortal. To do this, He
will add an important immortal ingredient and that ingredient is His Holy Spirit. Notice for example Rom 8:
9 -11, “But you are not in the flesh, but in the spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man
have not the spirit of Christ, he is none of His. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the
Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell I you, He
that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by His Spirit that dwells in you.”
God’s Spirit is like a seed, it will grow with our effort at overcoming. Having God's Holy Spirit, we
become partakers of God's diving nature. “According as His divine power has given unto us all things that
pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him that has called us to glory and virtue: whereby
are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these you might be partakers of the Divine
Nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust” (2 Pet 1: 3-4).
Pentecost is the third step in God's master plan. This third step is the second harvest of God’s first -
fruits. This first-fruits of the wheat harvest were to be treated differently from the first barley harvested first-fruits! The Pentecost wave loaves were offered fifty days after the barley wave sheaf! “And you shall count unto
you from the morrow after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave Offering; seven
Sabbaths shall be complete: even unto the morrow after the seventh Sabbath shall you number fifty days; and
you shall offer a new [a different] Offering unto the Lord. You shall bring out of your habitations two wave
loaves. They shall be baked with leaven; they are the first-fruits unto the Lord” (Lev 23: 15 - 17.).
With the barley wave sheaf, no leaven was offered, but with the baked wave loaves from the wheat,
typified the church baked with leaven because in the church there is still Laodiceans sin, “neither cold nor hot”.
If Christ’ disciples had not been keeping this day of Pentecost, they would not have received God's Holy Spirit!
The fifty day period between the barley wave-sheaf offering and the two wave loaves offering at Pentecost,
symbolizes: what has been going on since the time God sent His Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost.
During this time, God has been calling out His "elect bride,” and His elect guest to attend the wedding supper,
“wedding reception.” Both of these called elect are pictured having God’s Holy Spirit, and are called God’s
first fruits. One is from the first fruits from the barley harvest and the other first fruits is from the wheat
harvest, that still have a little leavening [sin] in them.
God’s word is very clear, sin quenches the Holy Spirit in us! We need to: “pray without ceasing. in every
thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Quench not the spirit. Despise not
prophesying. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil. And the very
God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless
unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thess 5: 17 - 23).
Rev 21 verse 5 tells us, “I will make all things new.” Thank God for His Holy Spirit and Truth! ☜
