New Heaven and New Earth
What are God’s plans for His family after we are all part of the spiritual realm? What kind of work will
there be for us? You may search the scriptures from Genesis to Revelation and the answer to those questions will
not be found.
We must be extremely careful not to add to scripture. God gives strong warnings against this! (Deut 4:2).
In our past history a plan was laid out—not as speculation but laid out as fact, and many of the ministers in God’s
Church still teach this in differing degrees. It has been said something like this; “The great universe needs to be
completed–dead planets need to be rejuvenated, we must work and rebuild the universe!”
But some, with inquiring minds have asked the question, why do we need to rebuild a physical universe
when all the God family will be spirit? Why did God create the physical earth and heavens in the first place?
Let’s find this out in scripture. We need go no farther than the first chapter of Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning
God created the heavens and the earth.” This tells us that there was a time when the physical heavens and earth
did not exist. But why did God create this physical planet He calls earth, with its sun and moon and for that
matter why did He create these vast physical heavens? The answer is plan and precise; to sustain physical life
until His plan was completed to increase His spiritual family, and we find the answers to how this was
accomplished in His holy Word! Gen. 1:14 tells us He made the sun and moon and stars to tell us times and
seasons and holy times. He made Polaris, Sirus, Vega, Pleades, Antares: and many other stars in the heavens for
just this reason.
A minor decrease in the sun's distance from the earth would have a drastic heating effect on the earth's
surface. We see that the earth is just the proper distance from the sun to maintain the right surface temperature
suitable for life and the many important geologic processes!
God created the earth for His purpose to sustain life. He set it physically, just the right distance from the
sun. He created different planets with their moons for different reasons. Our moon, even though it is barren,
serves the purpose God created it for; physically it wasn’t made to sustain life. Neither were the other planets
in our solar system created to sustain life for in the physical realm they are either too close to the sun or too far
from its heat. We are told in (2 Cor. 4:18), “While we do not look at the
things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things
which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are
eternal.”
After the final day of Judgement, the temporary, physical gestational
environment that God created for the reproduction of His family will be of
no further use and will cease to exist. “…but in these last days He has
spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and
through whom also He made the universe” ( Heb. 1:2). NIV (Christ made
the physical universe.)
What does the scripture say will happen to the physical earth and
heavens (the universe) when Gods plan is completed? (Apostle Paul quotes
Ps.102:25-27) in Hebrews 1:10-12, “He also says to the Son, in the
beginning, Lord, you laid the foundation of the earth and made the heavens
with Your hands. They will perish, but You remain forever. They will wear
out like old clothing. You will fold them up like a cloak and discard them
like old clothing. But you are always the same; you will live forever." NLT
“Lift up
“Lift up your eyes to the
heavens, And look on
the earth beneath. For
the heavens will vanish
away like smoke, The
earth will grow old like
a garment, And those
who dwell in it will die
in like manner; But My
salvation will be forever,
And My righteousness
will not be abolished”
Isa 51:6 NKJV
your eyes to the heavens, and look
on the earth beneath. For the heavens will vanish away like smoke, the
earth will grow old like a garment, and those who dwell in it will die in like
manner; but My salvation will be forever, and My righteousness will not be
abolished” (Isaiah 51:6) NKJ
Based upon these passages, Peter was inspired to describe the complete breakdown of the atomic structure
which makes the physical universe possible; (2Peter3:10) “…the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and
the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.” NKJ.
(Not just what is on the earth will be burned up but the earth also) “…and then the heavens will vanish away with
a great rushing sound; the elements, all aflame, will dissolve into nothingness, no trace being left of the earth
or of anything contained in it.” CAS.
How much clearer could those passages be and yet we were told that only what was on the earth would
be burned up and nothing concerning the heavens passing away? It’s like what was stated above in (2 Cor. 4:18)
“While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which
are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
We see the earth, the sun and moon and all the galaxies in the heavens that can now be seen and we can’t
imagine them disappearing for we are still looking at the things which are seen, the physical, and not at the things
which are not seen, the spiritual! But what is the true reality, what is really out there in Gods vast realm of His
spiritual universe that we cannot see which is eternal? Is the physical universe a type of Gods spiritual universe?
Could the paradise in the Garden of Eden, with the Tree of life, (Gen. 3:8) be a physical type of the spiritual
Paradise of God in heaven?
What is God telling us in the first chapter of Romans? (Romans 1:19-20) “Because what may be known
of God is evident in them for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible
attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and divine
nature so they are without excuse.” The Psalms brings to light, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the
firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge. There is
no speech nor language where their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth and their
words to the end of the world” (Ps. 19:1-4).
Hebrews 2:7-8 has been sighted as a proof that we will rebuild the physical universe. “You made him
(man) a little lower than the angels; You crowned him with glory and honor, and set Him over the works of Your
hands, You have put all things in subjection under His feet.” NKJ. It is absolutely true that all things are put
under Christ feet as will be human beings when we become spirit but the all things does not tell us that we will
go out into the physical universe to rebuild. Yes, we will have our part in the spiritual realm but what we will
be accomplishing, the scriptures are silent.
(Romans 8:19-22) “For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.
For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it,
in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and
glory of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth
right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly
as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.” NIV
Yes, just as the children of God will become spirit when their physical bodies disappear so shall the
creation be changed too spirit or we might say the physical creation disappears and the spiritual will be present.
As said in 2 Peter 3:13, Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in
which righteousness dwells. And I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had
passed away. (REB “vanished”; PHL: “disappeared”) also there was no more sea” (Rev.21:1).
The Greek translated “New” is from the word “Kaine”, which means “new as to form or quality”; “of
different nature from what is contrasted as old.” John witnesses something new only from humanity’s
perspective—the end of the physical universe and a return to the eternal condition which preceded the creation
of the physical. All matter has its foundation in the spirit, which God used at the sub-sub- atomic level for
creating the physical. “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things
which are seen were not made of things which are visible”(Heb. 11:3).
The absence of the sea, and or oceans, has meaning that there will be no existence of physical life for it
is impossible without the vastness of the earth’s oceans to regulate climate and temperatures; the absence of those
oceans means there will be no physical life at the time of the New Heaven and New Earth.
We’ve learned from clear scripture that the physical earth and the heavens will disappear and the spiritual
New Heaven and New Earth (The Paradise of God) will be our abode. It was even construed that Gods family
would never be completed and that each one of Gods children would have their own physical planet to create
their own humans, etc., etc. but to produce this theory one had to ignore Ps. 102:25-27, Heb. 1:10-12, Isa. 51:6
& 2Peter 3:10. This approach was going far out on the limb of heresy!!
But with all that the scriptures tell us we can know there is work to be done. Jesus answered and said in
John. 5:17, "My Father is working until now, and I Myself am working.” NAS
We also know from scripture Christ is over all thing, as those who are the firstfruits will also be and being
recipients of eternal inheritance, the children of God, as part of the family of God, will be granted rulership over
the entire spiritual universe! ☜
