JOHN WEPT !
By John Post
Throughout the Bible, both Old and New Testament, we come across things which make us wonder why,
or for what reason things are happening in a certain way. Most things are there for a reason, to make us look deeper
into God’s word and study it closer to get a fuller meaning of what is going on..
One of these questions is found in Rev. 5:4, “And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open
and to read the book, neither to look thereon.” We should be asking ourselves, “Why did John weep?” We know
that if we read further on in the next verse, vs.5, “And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion
of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.”
If we go back a few verses, John already knew that the Lord Jesus Christ was worthy of all things. “Thou
art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they
are and were created” (Rev 4:11). Also in the book of Matthew we find written, “Then the eleven disciples went
away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw Him, they worshipped
Him: but some doubted. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto Me in heaven and
in earth” (Matt 28:16-18). Here we have Christ telling His disciples that He has power over all things in heaven and
earth. Take note: at this time the Lord Jesus Christ had already ascended into heaven and was no longer a man in
the flesh, but a spirit who is sitting at God the Fathers right hand, having power and honor over all things. Notice
in this verse that it mention that some of the disciples doubted, though it does not say what they doubted or who was
the ones doubting. But it is another point put in there to make us wonder and make us look further into what is
occurring.
We have seen in theses few verses, that John, was told several times that the Lord Jesus Christ had power
and honor over all things and was worthy of all things. So we should know without a doubt, what John has shown
us is true! We now understand why John wept in Revelation 5:4. He was distressed that no human man could reveal
the destiny of the nations, so he experienced doubt and that caused him sorrow! He allowed distress and doubt to
come into his mind.
Though doubt is something that is in our human nature, it is not a bad things because it causes us to grow
in knowledge and understanding. It makes us search out a question and to seek out the answer.
We may ask how can we come to this conclusion where John wept, was doubting? Like reading in God’s
words we should back up a few verses and get a better picture of what is going on, to get a better understanding of
the context.
When reading Revelation 4:11 to Revelation 5:verse 5, we find, “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory
and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are and were created.
And I saw in the right hand of Him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with
seven seals. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose
the seals thereof? And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither
to look thereon. And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look
thereon. And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath
prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.”
Once again we see that the Christ is worthy of all things and has power, glory and honour over all things.
But as we read on, an angel ask who are worthy and saying that no man, in heaven nor in the earth or under the earth
was worthy. This is where John let himself doubt and it caused him to weep much, meaning with much sorrow. Can
you imagine what John must have felt, upon hearing that no man in heaven or in the earth or under the earth was
worthy, knowing and being with the Lord Jesus Christ and being one of His disciples.
The word doubt in the Strong’s Concordance is the Greek word–diakrino, #1252, meaning: to separate
thoroughly i.e. [literally and reflexive]; to withdraw from or by implication decide or [reflexive]; hesitate- contend’
make to differ. Difference, discern; doubt; judge; to be partive; stagged, waver.”
The Webster’s Dictionary says: 1). Be uncertain [about]; to disbelieve; wavering of belief; uncertainty.
From these definitions we can clearly see that John definitely had doubted what was said and not truly believing it!
There is one thing that we can know for a fact and that is that the Lord Jesus Christ had no doubt in Him,
even at a young age He had said to His Mother, “Why be so concerned about Me. You know that I be about My
Fathers business” “And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.
And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and
His mother knew not of it. But they, supposing Him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they
sought Him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. And when they found Him not, they turned back again to
Jerusalem, seeking Him. And it came to pass, that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst
of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. And all that heard Him were astonished at His
understanding and answers. And when they saw Him, they were amazed: and His mother said unto Him, Son, why
hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, Thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. And He said unto them, How
is it that ye sought Me? wist ye not that I must be about My Father's business? (Luke 2:42-49).
The Lord, Jesus Christ knew from an early age He must be doing the will of God, the Father. He had no
doubt in Himself. If He would have had any doubt He would not have been able to fulfill al He was sent to do.
There was no other man, not even the first Adam, that could not fulfill the things that our Lord Christ did!
We, as God’s called out ones, must stand strong with our Lord, not wavering or doubting. But standing
strong, built on the Rock, Christ our Saviour! We must never let God’s Holy Spirit slip away and cause us to doubt!
We can all be reassured in the words of the Lord, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Always praying
“Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven! ☜

Deuteronomy 8:3,6-20
==============================
“.....Man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the LORD. 6 Therefore you shall
keep the commandments of the LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him. 7 For the LORD your God is bringing you into
a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, that flow out of valleys and hills; 8 A land of wheat and barley, of vines
and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive oil and honey; 9 A land in which you will eat bread without scarcity, in which you will
lack nothing; a land whose stones are iron and out of whose hills you can dig copper. 10 When you have eaten and are full, then you
shall bless the LORD your God for the good land which He has given you. 11 Beware that you do not forget the LORD your God by
not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes which I command you today, 12 Lest--when you have eaten and are
full, and have built beautiful houses and dwell in them; 13 And when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold
are multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied; 14 When your heart is lifted up, and you forget the LORD your God who brought
you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage; 15 Who led you through that great and terrible wilderness, in which were fiery
serpents and scorpions and thirsty land where there was no water; who brought water for you out of the flinty rock; 16 Who fed you
in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, to do you good
in the end-- 17 Then you say in your heart, 'My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth. 18 And you shall remember
the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers,
as it is this day. 19 Then it shall be, if you by any means forget the LORD your God, and follow other gods, and serve them and worship
them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish. 20 As the nations which the LORD destroys before you, so you shall
perish.” ☜
