DOES ASTROLOGY HAVE THE ANSWERS?
******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************
Recently, listening to a Minister of a Church of God, telling his audience that he has been studying into the
Zodiac, for signs and answers to Revelation 12:1 about the women with stars around her heard. He said that we
could look at the astrological stars of the Zodiac for a sign when the return of Christ is near! Is this true?
But, what does God’s word say about looking into astrology for answers to questions? There are many scriptures
that say, “Do not follow the ways of the pagans around us!” God told the children of Israel not to look to
astrology [star gazers] to know the will of God! God’s Word is the only true answers to knowing God’s will!
“When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the
abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter
to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or
a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things
are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out
from before thee. Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God. For these nations, which thou shalt possess,
hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee
so to do” ( Deut 18:9-14).
Let’s look at just a few scriptures that talk about using the above practices! All scripture is from the King James
Version of the Bible.
In Lev 19:31, God says, “Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled
by them: I am the LORD your God”
Ezek 21:21-23, “For the king of Babylon stood at the parting of the way, at the head of the two ways, to use
divination: he made his arrows bright, he consulted with images, he looked in the liver. At his right hand was
the divination for Jerusalem, to appoint captains, to open the mouth in the slaughter, to lift up the voice with
shouting, to appoint battering rains against the gates, to cast a mount, and to build a fort. And it shall be unto
them as a false divination in their sight, to them that have sworn oaths: but he will call to remembrance the
iniquity, that they may be taken.”
Jer 27:9, “Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your
enchanters, nor to your sorcerers, which speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon: And
in Jer 29:8-9, “For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners,
that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed. For they
prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith the LORD.”
I Sam 28:5-8, “And when Saul saw the host of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart greatly trembled. And
when Saul inquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.
Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and inquire
of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor. And Saul
disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman
by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine unto me by the familiar spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall
name unto thee.”

The King James Study Bible of 1987 says about these pagan practices says of Deut. 18:9-14. Pass through the
fire This section contains some stern admonition against ant indulgence into sorcery. This exact nature of this
practice seems to have been a kind of trial by ordeal. The context indicates that offering a child is for the
particular purpose of determining or discernign the course of events. This probably was the motivation behind
the Moabite king’s sacrifice of his son in 2 Kings 3:26-27. “And when the king of Moab saw that the battle was
too sore for him, he took with him seven hundred men that drew swords, to break through even unto the king of
Edom: but they could not. Then he took his eldest son that should have reigned in his stead, and offered him for
a burnt offering upon the wall. And there was great indignation against Israel: and they departed from him, and
returned to their own land.
Divination (quesem) was used in Balaam in Numbers 22;7 and in Joshua 13:22. Saul asked the witch of Endor
to “divine unto me” in 1 Samuel 28:8. The same word was used in Ezekiel 27:21 refers to the practice whirling
arrows in a quiver and deciding the answer to the question by the first arrow thrown out.
Observer of times (me’onen) may be a reference to divination by reading clouds. [Note from us—this could refer
to study of the stars and name them after animals or a lady! *JR].
Enchanter (menachesh) divination by means of a cup and may point to a kind of hydromancy, in which
reflections on the water in a cup are observed.
Witch ((mekashep) denotes a form of magic. The root means “to cut up,” and thus may refer to one who cuts
up herbs and brews them for magical purposes (Gr, pharmaka, drug). The term is used in Micah 5:12 for some
such material as drugs or herbs used superstitiously to produce magical effects. The noun therefore means
enchanter or sorcerer (Exo 7:11, 22:18; 2 Chr. 33:6 ; Dam 2:2; Mal 3:5).
Wizard (yde oni) the term related to the verb “to know,” or “to consult” a familiar spirit.
Necromancer The Hebrew for this term means “one who asks of the dead.” all these practices are clearly
condemned.
What is the Zodiac?, but a group of stars that are supposed to be animals that can be seen in the heavens?
The Encyclopedia Americana, 1949 Edition says: “it probable was introduces by the Chaldeans in 2100 BC. The
Constellations themselves bare no resemblance to the signs designated by them during the Middle ages. During
the Middle Ages the signs of the Zodiac were supposed to influence human life. Origin of the names of the
animals assigns to the Zodiac by the ancients is unknown. These are but fanciful representation and have not
foundation in fact!”
Webster’s New 20th Century Dictionary of the English Languages 1962 Edition SAYS:
“Astrology– Often used of astronomy–but now restricted in meaning to the pseudo science which claims to
foretell the future by studying the supposed influence of the relative position of the moon, sun and stars on human
affairs.”
Astrologer: One who professes to interpret or determine the supposed influence of the stars on events, qualities,
or destines of men: One who practices astrology or foretells events, the position and aspects of the stars!
Once again God tells us in Deu. 18: 13-14, “Thou shall be perfect with the LORD thy God. For these nations,
which thou shall possess, hearkened unto observes of time, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God
has not suffered thee so to do.”
